Our Workshop

Our Team:

We are very proud of our state-of-the-art workshop, where we can perform any types of servicing, repairs, recalls, updates and upgrades as well as Dyno Tuning, located at our main premises, with its own access from Hudson Street.
Our team of four Harley-Davidson technicians under management of Harley-Davidson Master Of Technology Johan Fourie can be seen at work via the big window in our Customer Lounge. Our 5-bay workshop is equipped with a DynoJet 250i test facility and H-D Digital Technican.

Training of our workshop staff is constantly updated by factory provided on-line training, training at Harley-Davidson Service Schools in the UK and USA and not in the least by our two Harley-Davidson Factory Certified Masters Of Technology Johan Fourie and Paul Barnard. They are the only H-D MoT's on the African continent, Johan working as the Workshop Manager, Paul as the After Sales Manager. Becoming a graduated H-D MoT not only requires years of experience and training, but also passing 'some tests'. Both Johan and Paul passed with maximum score, an achievement that made not only them, but our whole HDCT Team very proud!

So you now have the choice, would you go for less???

Digital Technician:

Requiring an investment of well over US$12.000 the Digital Technician is a diagnostic computer system, especially designed for Harley-Davidson. The computer connects to your motorcycle with data-link-access/bluetooth (1995 models and up), creates a data history of your bike and produces print-outs for your and our records.Basically DT makes a full road test "sûr place" in the workshop, enabling Johan, Steve, Fred, Nicholas and Byron an almost instant detection of any possible defect of electrical components, thus reducing working hours and save money for you as the owner. The Digital Technician assist our technicians to keep your Harley running like it should or could.

DynoJet 250i Test Room:

Over US$ 130.000 was invested in the soundproof Dyno Jet Test Room. Both Masters Of Technology Johan Fourie and Paul Barnard are specifically and extensively trained to calibrate your V-twin during indoor test runs. Big fans and forced extraction system warrant optimal cooling conditions of your bike during tests. Print-outs are provided to the clients to show before and after results of horse-power, torque and fuel consumption. Fitment of a Harley-Davidson Screamin´Eagle Super Tuner allows our technicians to change settings and provides the improvements in performance up to 13% and creates a going-for-ever-feeling and sharp throttle response. The strong reduction of overtaking-time and -distance enhances the safety of rider and passenger on the many busy two-lane roads in our country.

The DynoJet Test bench also helps our technicians to diagnose some mechanical problems on bikes and/or get the Boy`s (and Girl's!) Toys runing really great after fitting a set of camshafts. Or maybe even that big engine upgrade you've been dreaming of to blow the tyre smoke into your mates face when you take a hand full of throttle. The DynoJet Super Tuner gets the fuel and ignition maps right every time.

Upgrading your bike :

Paul en Johan are par excellence The Right People to Talk To when it comes to upgrading your bike even to a higher engine capacity. There is a wide variety of options, cams, heads, you name it, as well 883 to 1200, 1450 to 1550,1584 cc H-D engines. Or 'pump it up' to 103" or even to a 1584 to 113'' (1900 cc!).. We will gladly inform you about possibilities, results and costs, and if we have an upgraded demo available, you are welcome to go for a selfconvicing test ride. But note: our upgraded demo bikes are not for the faint harted! An yes, in this case the Americans saying is right: Bigger Performs Even Better!

Fast Lane ServiceTM :

Our Fast Lane ServiceTM assist you for that unexpected puncher, new battery or to fit that new set of accessory grips that you want. Up to one hour of labour we offer you Service While You Wait in the comfort of our customer lounge, famous for its great quality of free coffee. But it's always better to let our Service Advisor Shaun Pettersen know upfront to get a slot time, because our Fast Lane Service works on First-Come-First-Serve.

Valeting :

After any service, repair or accessory fitment, Mandla and Shaun make sure your bike leaves our workshop in mint condition. After a thorough wash your bike is polished where necessary. And if it comes to a detailed valet of your treasure, Sidney takes pride in his work, as is also literally reflected in the condition of chrome and paintwork of the selection of NEX2NEW bikes on our sales floor. Mixed with our new bikes, clients can often not even spot the difference in condition between new and NEX2NEW Harley-Davidsons.

Why use an Authorized Harley-Davidson Dealer Workshop? :

Like with your car, the time that any qualified technician could work on your precious vehicle is far behind us. Since the 1990's our cars and motorcycles are equipped with sophisticated electronic equipment. Vehicles have high-tech fuel injection systems instead of carburettors, they have 'black boxes' also storing fault codes histories. Working on this equipment does no longer require a man in a blue overall, adjusting your idle with a trained ear and a screwdriver, but a Digital Technician, being a very special laptop, operated by a factory trained, updated and certified technician. You do not find these people and this knowledge in an aftermarket dealer. After market dealers simply do not have access to necessary equipment, technical factory information and updates that an Authorized Dealer has. Of any vehicle brand; so that includes most certainly Harley-Davidson. More and more the work of after market vehicle workshops gets limited to working on pre-21st century and self-built vehicles or to cosmetic work. After market workshops do not have mandatory training schedules for staff, factory requirements for tools, access to technical updates, factory recalls, etc. etc. They can not see fault codes (if any), stored in the memory of your bike, leave alone solve the problem.

Apart from that, if anyone else than an Authorized Dealer performs technical work on your vehicle, it voids your factory warranty. Also here Harley-Davidson is no exception.

All these aspects explain why the workshop hourly rates of an Authorized Dealer is usually (but not even always) higher than the after market, who does not need to do all the investments in knowledge and tools. It also explains why bottomline you end up paying less, because an Authorized Dealer technician spends far less time for adequate fault finding, problem solving and the guinuine parts used and workmanship are under warranty.
